As the rate of change accelerates, distributors and businesses in general are accepting the importance of remaining agile and fluid. Advancements in technology, plus shifts in the general makeup of the workforce, are largely responsible for this acceleration, and it’s only going to increase from here. Executives and management teams are looking within their organizations to understand how change is viewed and approached.

Business leaders who are excited by this notion because it conjures up ideas of possibility and opportunity will be far ahead of peers who get stuck in the ways of yesterday. Besides, resisting this evolution isn’t really much of an option for a company that wants to grow and/or stay in business. It’s simply a matter of whether it is considered pleasant or painful.

When it comes to change, perspective is everything because, given the exact same circumstances, some people see problems while others see opportunities.

This is not to say that change is always easy, just that it doesn’t need to have the negative connotation that is too often associated with it. By reframing the concept of change as something that is “emotionally neutral,” company leaders can take a step back and honestly assess what perspective they are bringing to the situation and whether it is justified or even helpful.
